Retired Sheriff Hampton James tugged on the reigns and pulled Smokey, his wild mustang with smoke-like markings on his left flank, to a stop.

What do we have here? The dry flat landscape allowed him to see for miles in any direction. Many years as a detecting sheriff in New Mexico and a naturally curious person had sharpened his observation skills.
Lying on the desert floor, not twenty feet from him, there looked to be a large, dry, cracked lump with cowboy clothes on.

Hampton stopped to study the scene. To an average person it looked like a mess of hoof and boot prints but Hampton had a trained eye and he began to unravel the action laid out on the ground. It looks to be three horses involved. One rode from the west where the town of Silver, Arizona is located.
